HEVN recommends: Hand wash your clothes!
If you are like us, you have probably used years to build your personal, curated wardrobe and you love every single piece you own! Taking good care of your clothes should therefor be a priority, to keep yourself from the heartaches of losing one or more of your key items because the washing machine pinched a hole in it.
That is why we recommend that you wash your clothes by hand. It is a little extra work, but we belive it is worth it for many reasons.
Buying a washing machine is expensive, and it takes up a lot of space. They also use a lot of electricity and water. Water shortages is upon us, and we need to stop wasting water wherever we can.
Here is our small guide on how to wash your clothes by hand:
Step 1: Don't overwash
People have a tendency to wash their clothes way too often. Air them out instead! This also minimizes the tear and damage on the fabrics.
Step 2: Read the care instructions
Make sure that you read the care instructions on your clothes to see what the designer has recommended.Step 3: Fill sink with cold water
If you have a tub or a sink, fill some of it with cold water and add a small amount of mild detergent.
Step 4: Soak
Put your garment in the water and make sure to soak it properly. Do not stretch the garment, but gently move it around in the water. Leave it in for approx 10 minutes.
Step 5: Rinse
Drain the sink and rinse the garment in fresh water until all the soap is removed. Repeat if necessary.
Step 6: Squeeze
To avoid stretching the fibers and potentially ruining the fabric, gently squeeze (don't wring) the water out of the garment.
Step 7: Air dry
Lay the garment on a flat surface to air dry.
If the clothes get a bit wrinkled, we recommend to steam rather than iron, because ironing flattens and crushes the fibres, plus it can leave burn marks and color variations.
If you use this approach, you can enjoy your favorite clothing for years to come! <3
